Golf Places Tenth at Winter Invitational
In the first spring tournament, the Brenau golf team placed tenth out of thirteen teams at the 7th Annual Winter Invitational at the King and Prince Golf Course hosted by the College of Coastal Georgia at Saint Simons Island, Georgia on Monday and Tuesday.
The Golden Tigers shot a 351-341-692 to place ahead of Eastern Florida State, Point (Ga.) University and Webber (Fla.) International. The squad was nine shots behind Emmanuel (Ga.) College and 14 behind host College of Coastal Georgia.
"The first tournament of the spring was a bit disappointing for the team," said head coach Damon Stancil. "It was a strong field and an excellent course, but we just couldn't seem to minimize our mistakes either day. There were some bright spots over the two days for the ladies however, and we will look to build on those positives as we prepare for the Cavalier Spring Invitational."
Sara Jane Bowers and Morgan Wood both finished in a tie for 21st out of 68 players to lead the Golden Tigers. Bowers shot a score of 84-82-166, while Wood matched her teammate with the same 84-82-166. Freshman Ashley Omidi placed third for the Golden Tigers with an 86-88-174, while Amber Clayton (97-94-191) and Olivia Davis (102-89-191) tied for 61st place.
SCAD-Atlanta won the tournament with a total team score of 641, while Cumberlands University (645), Thomas (Ga.) University (648), Southeastern (Fla.) University (648) and St. Andrews (NC) College rounded out the top five.
Brenau next travels to the Cavalier Spring Invitational at Silver Creek Plantation in Morganton, NC on March 6th and 7th.
