Golf Places Second at Cavalier Invitational
The Brenau golf team shot a two-day total of 676 to capture second place at the Cavalier Spring Invitational at Silver Creek Plantation in Morganton, NC on Monday and Tuesday.
The Golden Tigers finished nine shots behind tournament champion Tennessee Wesleyan University and thirty three shots ahead of third place Truett McConnell (Ga.) College on the par 72 course.
Individually, Brenau's Morgan Wood tied host Montreat College's Sara Gwillim led for second place. The senior fired a 79-83-162 to pace the Golden Tigers. Wood's 79 was the second best round of the tournament.
Sara Jane Bowers also played well as the junior shot 81-87-168 to capture fifth place, while freshman Ashley Omidi placed in a tie for seventh place with an 83-88-171.
Other top Brenau finishers include Megan Reddick (88-88-176/12th place), Amber Clayton (91-87-178/T15th) and Kayla Watson (99-92-191/T26th).
"A second place finish is a good showing for us as we get ready to host our home event in a couple of weeks," said head coach Damon Stancil. "The ladies played well on day one, but we were not able to follow it up on Tuesday. Tennessee Wesleyan posted some good scores on day two and we simply didn't finish strong".
"We will learn from our mistakes and work harder to prepare for a very strong field of players at our invitational."
Brenau next hosts the Golden Tiger Spring Invitational at the Chattahoochee Golf Club on March 20th and 21st.
