Golf Finishes Fourth At SSAC Championships
The Brenau golf team used a strong closing round to pass Loyola University to capture fourth place at the 2017 Southern States Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championships at Arrowhead Country Club in Montgomery, Alabama.
On the final day of the three-day event, the Golden Tigers shot their best score-310- to post three-day total of 948 (+84) on the Par-72, 5,816-yard course. The team defeated Loyola by four strokes in the final round (310-314) and one stroke overall (948-949) to earn the highest finish in the program's four year history.
Individually, Morgan Wood continued her strong final season by shooting a 80-76-74-230 (+14). The Dahlonega, Ga. senior topped off her Golden Tigers' career with a top-ten finish by placing in a tie for seventh place. Teammate Sara Jane Bowers also had a strong tournament as the Statesboro, Ga. native notched an 81-75-78-234 (+18) to tie for 11th place.
Sophomore Megan Reddick tied for 18th place with a three-day total of 78-80-81-239 (+23) to place in a tie for 18th, while freshman Ashley Omidi rallied with a final day 77 to earn an 80-88-77-245 (+29) to finish 26th overall. Sophomore Amber Clayton also improved her final day score by shooting 91-91-87-269 (+53) for a tie for 35th place.
Defending champion Dalton State (Ga.) College won the championship with a 301-305-293-899 (+35), while William Carey (Miss.) University (906) and Faulkner (Ala.) University (917) placed second and third respectively.
Loyola (La.) University (949), the University of Mobile (Ala.) (+150) Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College (+195) and Bethel (Tenn.) University (+196) rounded out the scores.
