Golf Places Third at AAC Spring Championships
Waleska, Ga. - The Brenau golf team improved nine strokes on day two to capture third place at the AAC Spring Championships at Callahan Golf Links on Tuesday.
The Golden Tigers squad shot a 332-323-655 (+79) to edge past Tennessee Wesleyan University by two strokes to earn third place. The team previously placed third at the AAC Fall Championships in October.
Individually, sophomore Macie Hurst shot a consistent 80-80-160 (+16) to place eleventh at the championships. Senior Megan Reddick improved on her opening day score of 86 to fire a team-low 77 on day two to finish with a 163 (T14th).
Junior Niquole Mangal shot 84-80-164 to finish T17 and sophomore Annika Blanton finished with an 82-86-168 to place T24.
"While it wasn't our best effort of the season on day one, the team responded well on day two and posted a very strong team score of 323," said head coach Damon Stancil. "Megan (Reddick) played great early Tuesday and stepped up for the team with our low round of the tournament (77), while Macie (Hurst) also did a great job of limiting mistakes and leading the team in scoring for the 2 days (160)."
"Our chance at Nationals is coming in less than two weeks at the Direct Qualifier and we've got a few strategic things to focus on in order to post the kind of scores needed to win. The ladies are hitting the ball well and are ready for the challenge."
SCAD-Atlanta won the team title with a 630, while Milligan College shot 638 to place second overall.
Milligan's Sarah Son earned low medalist honors by shooting a 151.
Brenau now has two weeks to prepare for the AAC Direct Qualifier in Braselton, Ga. on April 15-16.
