Golf Captures Third Place at Point Invitational
Lanett, Alabama- In the opening tournament of the season, the Brenau golf team placed third at the Point Fall Invitational at the Point University Golf Club on Tuesday.
The team totaled 336-316-652 (+76) to finish only nine shots behind second place Reinhardt (Ga.) University. The squad improved twenty strokes from day one of the tournament.
In her first collegiate event, freshman Ylena Bennasar captured third place overall with a two-day total of 156 (+12). In the opening round, Bennasar fired a solid 81, and then improved by six shots with a 75 on the final day of competition.
Senior Annika Blanton shot an overall 82-78-160 (+16) to finish in a tie for sixth place, while fellow senior Macie Hurst finished with an 85-82-167 (+23) to place 12th overall.
Sophomores Haylee Rhodes and McKenzie McRee both shot a 172 (+28) to tie for 17th place. Rhodes, a Dallas, Texas native, shot a 91 in the opening round, then improved her score by ten strokes on the final day. McRee, a Jefferson, Ga. native, shot a consistent 88-84-172 in the tournament.
Individually, Truett McConnell University teammates Teagan Lovingood and Grace Landell tied for top honors with a score of 151, while Bennasar joined Megan McCord (158) from Reinhardt and Madison Painter (159) from Truett McConnell to round out the top five finishers.
Truett McConnell (Ga.) University captured top team honors with a 319-304-623, while Reinhardt captured second with a team total of 328-315-643. Truett McConnell's "B" team placed fourth (719), while host Point (Ga.) University (734) and St. Andrews (N.C.) University (+172) wrap up the top-five team finishers
