Golf Places Fourth at Coastal Georgia Invitational
Jekyll Island, Georgia- Senior Annika Blanton captured third place to lead the Brenau golf team to a fourth place finish at the Coastal Georgia Invitational played at Pine Lakes Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday.
Blanton finished four over par in a strong field of competitors for an outstanding tournament finish. The Hoschton, Ga. native shot an opening round 77 and then rallied with a 72 on the final day of the tournament. Blanton's final day 72 tied the tournament's lowest score, matching St. Thomas' Serah Khanyereri who captured low medalist honors.
Fellow senior Macie Hurst also had a solid tournament with a 16th place finish as the Flowery Branch, Ga. native shot a 79-80-159 to finish 15-over par in the tournament.
Freshman Ylenia Bennasar continued her strong fall season with an 82-80-162 (+18) to place T19, while sophomore Haylee Rhodes added an 80-86-166 (+22) to finish T25. Sophomore McKenzie McRee placed 43rd with a 89-99-188 to round out the Golden Tigers finishers.
The Golden Tigers tallied a consistent 318-318-636 (+60) to capture fourth place out of eight teams. Fellow AAC member Milligan (Tenn.) University earned top team honors with a 603 (+13), while Southeastern (Fla.) University (605) and host College of Coastal Georgia (622) placed second and third overall.
The tournament marked the last competition of an outstanding fall season for the team. The squad will take a break, then pick up competition again in the 2021 spring season.
