Late Goal Propels Lacrosse Past Truett McConnell
Gainesville, Georgia- A late goal by freshman Lindsey Bowbliss propelled the Brenau lacrosse team past Truett McConnell (Ga.) 16-15 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play.
After Brenau took a 5-2 lead in the first half, the visiting Bears responded with a 4-1 in the second quarter to take a 6-5 lead. Just before halftime, sophomore Kiara Nagy scored unassisted to even the match at 6-6.
During the final two quarters, the teams had three lead changes and four ties, while neither team took more than a two goal advantage.
With just over eight minutes remaining, the Bears took a two goal lead as Marlo McBrayer beat Golden Tiger goalkeeper Emily Nix for a 15-13 advantage.
Over the final seven minutes, Bowbliss notched three consecutive goals to give Brenau a 16-15 lead. The game winner came at the 1:43 mark as she beat Truett McConnell’s Mackenzie Tyler from a free position to give Brenau its first win of the season.
The Golden Tigers outshot the Bears 41-31 in the match.
Bowbliss led all scorers with 7 goals, while Nagy added 4 goals. Freshmen Bailey Ledbetter and Savannah Watkins each posted 2 goals.
Nix posted 9 saves for her first career win.
Brenau (1-2 overall, 1-1 AAC) next hosts Lourdes (Ohio) University (0-0 overall) on Monday at 2 pm eastern.
