Brenau Knocks Off #24 Lindenwood

Gainesville, GA- The Brenau soccer team recorded one of its biggest wins in program history with a 2-0 shutout over NAIA #24 Lindenwood, MO today at the Allen Creek Soccer Complex. The Tigers won their second straight match to run their overall record to 2-1-1. For the first ten minutes of the game, BU controlled play by playing simple balls. and then a foul near the top of the goal box allowed Sophomore Tori Futrell to pick up her third goal of the season with a free kick at the 20:18 mark of the first half. Her sister, Lily, an All Conference performer last year, came up with her third goal of the year and completed the scoring with 7:52 left in the game. Junior goalkeeper Lisa Lesnick played an outstanding game, coming up with six big saves to preserve the shutout. Brenau outshot Lindenwood 13-11 overall and 9-6 shots on goal and their defense stiffened up in the second half as momentum swung back and forth throughout the match. Lily Futrell had an outstanding game, playing both in the front as a forward and moving to the wing for the last part of the game to strengthen the defense. "This win was truly a team effort with many of our players coming up with big plays throughout the match." said Coach Mike Lochstampfor. The Tigers will take on SCAD next Saturday at home in another matchup against a Top 25 team.
