Brenau Gets First Ever Win Over Berry
September 24, 2009
Gainesville, GA- The Brenau soccer team took a big step forward tonight with an exciting 2-0 victory over Berry College at the Allen Creek Soccer Complex. This is the first win over Berry in program history and was truly a team effort with a number of players making crucial plays to contribute to the win.The first half of the game saw the Vikings controlling the ball for much of the time, but the defense for the Tigers and several key saves by Lisa Lesnick kept the ball out of the net and the teams went into halftime scoreless. Brenau finally broke the scoring drought with 40:25 left in the game off a corner kick by Marilyn Anderson that Dola Obahor headed to Lauren Hagin, who finished it for the goal. The second goal was just as exciting as Tori Futrell fed her sister Lily, who took a shot on goal that bounced off the Berry keeper right back to Futrell, who finished it on the rebound shot with 11:55 remaining. Innis Ette played an outstanding game at the defensive end and Hannah Martin came off the bench to play a strong second half. Brenau took 10 shots, six of which were on goal for the game and Lesnick recorded nine saves, two of which were game savers. "The pace of the game picked up for us in the second half and our runs with the ball improved,' said Coach Mike Lochstampfor. "This was truly a team effort with some outstanding play at both ends of the field." The Tigers will travel to Cleveland, TN on Saturday to take on the defending NAIA National Champion Lee Flames to open up their conference season.
