BU Soccer Loses in Conference Playoffs
November 8, 2009
Montgomery, AL- The Brenau soccer team fell in the opening round of the SSAC Playoffs today, dropping a 2-0 decision to Faulkner, AL. The Tigers dominated the game for the most part, holding possession for most of the game and outshooting the Eagles 9-4 shots on goal and 13-9 overall, but couldn't finish their chances. The game was scoreless throughout the first half, and Gen Lopez actually scored first, but an offsides call took away the goal.Faulkner then scored their first goal fifteen minutes into the second half on a brilliant save by Lisa Lesnick that didn't get cleared out of the box. The second goal came with two minutes left in the game when Brenau was pushing up numbers trying to get the equalizer. Coach Mike Lochstampfor singled out Lopez, Alyssa Schmucker, Lily and Tori Futrell for outstanding efforts in the contest. The Tigers close out the season with a 9-7-2 overall record and can only wonder about what could have been had they been at full strength over the last three weeks of the season as injuries and sickness took a toll on the team.
