Brenau Outlasts Reinhardt in Soccer
September 9, 2010
Gainesville, Ga - The Brenau soccer team picked up their first win of the season and handed Reinhardt their first loss with a 2-1 victory at the Allen Creek Soccer Complex. Freshman Midfielder Rachel Zarach (Acworth) gave the Tigers the lead with her first collegiate goal at the 14:30 mark of the first half on a nice assist from Senior Lauren Hagin.
Brenau went into the halftime intermission with a 1-0 lead even though Reinhardt had numerous chances to even the score, but the Tigers' defense, led by Tori Futrell and Lisa Lesnick kept them out of the goal. Reinhardt evened the score at the 38:39 mark of the second half before Freshman Midfielder Kirsty Smith (Doncaster, England) scored the game winner with 20:32 left in the game. It was also Smith's first collegiate goal and came off a looping shot over the goalie's head from about 20 yards out.
"We are happy with the win, which came over a quality team that always plays us tough," said Head Coach Mike Lochstampfor. "I thought we showed a lot of heart, especially in the second half when we started to control things more. I told the players before the game that someone needed to step up and provide us with some offense, and Rachel Zarach gave us a real lift at that end."
The Tigers will now have over a week off before traveling to Savannah to take on SCAD on September 17th.
