Brenau Loses Overtime Thriller at Emmanuel

Franklin Springs, Ga - The Brenau soccer team opened conference play yesterday against rival Emmanuel and lost 2-1 in overtime. The Tigers scored first on a Rachel Zarach goal on a nice far post shot from the top of the box and took a 1-0 lead into halftime. Rachel Zarach scored the lone goal for us on a nice far post shot from the top of the box.
It was Zarach's second goal of the season and both she and Janay Hunt were solid all day for Brenau. Emmanuel scored about midway through the second half from a free kick to tie the match. The Lions scored the game winner with 2:39 gone in overtime to come away with the win.
Goalkeeper Lisa Lesnick had five saves on the day as the Tigers had 12 shots in the match, six of which were on goal. Emmanuel takes the early lead in the SSAC at 2-0 and 5-5-1 on the season, while Brenau drops to 0-1, 2-7-1.
The Tigers will play another conference match on Tuesday when they travel to Truett-McConnell for a 4 pm kickoff.
