Brenau Races Past Columbia
October 21, 2010
Columbia, SC - Senior Dola Obahor (Nigeria) scored three goals Tuesday night to lead the Brenau soccer team to a convincing 5-0 win over Columbia College. The Tigers completely dominated this one, getting off 31 shots, 17 of which were on goal compared to seven shots, three on goal for the Koalas.
In addition to her three goals, Obahor also picked up an assist while getting off 13 shots, nine of which were on goal. Freshman Kirsty Smith (England) had the other two goals for Brenau and also assisted on another one as she took five shots, three on goal. Senior Lauren Hagin had two assists on a night that the Tigers scored two goals in the first half and the other three in the second stanza.
Obahor scored both first half goals, the second one off a Hagin assist. It was a tremendous goal that she knocked in from the top of the box into the top corner of the goal. The build up and possession that led to the goal were the best the Tigers have had all season. Dola then scored the third goal off a save that was knocked down by the keeper and she followed up and scored.
Smith got in on the action next when Obahor crossed to the middle as Kirsty was making a run in front of the goal and she added her second goal of the night when the goalie came out and Dola dished it off.
"This was a true team effort with tremendous work from our midfield and backs that allowed us to keep the pressure up high in their half of the field," said Coach Mike Lochstampfor. "It was really nice to get a convincing win and shutout there because in past years we have struggled against them on their field."
Brenau will host Brewton Parker at the Allen Creek Soccer Complex this Saturday at 3 pm in an important SSAC contest between two teams fighting for a spot in the conference tournament. This game will also be Senior Day for four very important players in the Brenau program. Lisa Lesnick, Dola Obahor, Lauren Hagin and Tori Futrell will be playing in one of their last home games for the Tigers, so let's all get out and cheer them on to a big win!
