BU Soccer Assists Fair Street Elementary
Gainesville, GA - What started out as a team bonding event for the Brenau University Soccer Team eventually turned into a service project that lasted for two months. The team visited a local grade school, and liked it so much that they decided to keep coming back. The Fair Street Elementary School welcomed the Golden Tigers with open arms as they walked through their doors and spent quality time with each of their first grade classrooms. Each week, the team would visit a different class, and players would pair up with a student. While they were coupled together, they were given time to read over any given book. Over time, these college and elementary students bonded and looked forward to the time they would get to spend together.
For the Golden Tiger's final visit to Fair Street, the team decided to do something special for all of the first grade classes. Each student had proven to be appreciative and excited at the opportunity to they had been given. With that said, the team scheduled a fun-filled play session. Everyone was involved in playing games, learning the skills and fundamentals, as well as participating in small scrimmages.
Assistant Soccer Coach, Marilyn Anderson, was more than pleased with her team's involvement with the Elementary School. "This was a great experience for the players, and a great opportunity for them to reach out to the community and assume their responsibility as role models to children."
