Faulkner Soars past the Golden Tigers
MONTGOMERY, Al - The Golden Tigers soccer team traveled to the West Division of the Southern States Athletic Conference to compete against Faulkner University, on Tuesday evening. Brenau already had one game under their belt, as the Lady Eagles prepared to play for the first time this season.
Midfielder, Erin Brinks (Ontario, Canada) helped lead the team offensively with 10 solid shots. Freshmen Elizabeth Campbell (Richmond Hill, GA) and Kayla Madsen (Flowery Branch, GA), were relentless in their attempts to put a goal on the board, as Campbell collected 6 shots, and Madsen totaled 5.
"It was a game of two very different halves- they owned the first and scored two goals and we were chasing the game the whole second half", stated Coach Lochstampfor. "We created some really nice scoring chances the second half, but couldn't put the ball in the net."
Coach Lochstampfor was referring to Brenau taking 8 shots in the first half and then 14 in the second. From a total of 22 attempts, 12 were recognized as shots on goal. The Golden Tigers' defense was stellar throughout the second half, providing the offense with support to help create significant attacking chances. "Hannah Norwood and Janay Hunt played well on defense. Offensively, Elizabeth Campbell was aggressive all game, and Rachel Zarach and Erin Brinks were strong throughout the second half." Coach Lochstampfor went on to say, "we have to figure out how to put away our scoring chances- bottom line"!
With the loss, the Golden Tigers drop to an overall record of 0-2, and a conference record of 0-1.
