The Golden Tigers Hold Back the Vikings
GAINESVILLE, Ga - The Brenau University soccer team hosted the Berry College Vikings, in Friday night's match. The two teams were constantly battling for momentum, with Berry making shots every chance they could, while Brenau continued to demonstrate strong, stubborn defense.
At the conclusion of the second half, the Golden Tigers were tied 1-1, with the Vikings. The game went into double overtime, with neither team seeing a goal scored. So, with a final score of 1-1, Brenau's overall record comes to 4-3-3 (4-1 SSAC).
At the 13:00 mark, Rachel Zarach (Ackworth, GA) took an opening that Berry gave to her. She set up her forward, Jenny Knibbs (Doncaster, England), with an assist, which allowed her to score the Golden Tigers' solo goal.
Throughout the match, Brenau demonstrated a strong team effort, defensively. Freshman goalkeeper, Tori Brown (Windermere, FL) allowed a single goal, while making 7 saves. During the second overtime, the Golden Tigers recorded 2 saves.
For most of the match, Berry College was quick to move the ball up the field, towards their goal. The Vikings outshot Brenau 23-6, taking 8 shot each half. The Golden Tigers struggled to find their way down the field, and connect with the goal.
The Golden Tigers will be back in action this Monday, as they host the University of Mobile at 4pm.
