The Golden Tigers Shutout the Bears, 2-0
GAINESVILLE, Ga - The Brenau University soccer team stepped out onto their home field against conference opponent, Truett-McConnell College, yesterday evening. The Lady Bears did not prove to be much of a threat to the Golden Tigers, as they shutout McConnell, 2-0. This win improves Brenau's overall record to 5-4-3 (5-2 SSAC). As for the Lady Bears, their overall record dropped to 3-9-1 (1-6 SSAC).
During the first half of the game, shots were made, but no goals were scored. The Golden Tigers outshot Truett-McConnell, 11-4, but were unable to follow through. However, the second half was a completely different story.
Brenau was chomping at the bit to put a goal on the board, as they outshot the Lady bears again 14-4. Midway through the second half, they used every opportunity they were given, in order to gain possession of the ball. With roughly 17 minutes left in the half, Jenny Knibbs (Doncaster, England) set Elizabeth Campbell (Richmond Hill, GA) up with a beautiful assist, allowing her to score the first goal of the game.
The Golden Tigers did not celebrate for long, as they were focused on spreading their lead further than 1-0. As time was running out, with less than 4 minutes on the clock, Kirsty Smith (Doncaster, England) scored another goal. Erin Brinks (Ontario, Canada) assisted Smith in scoring the second goal of the game, bringing the final score to 2-0.
Brenau's soccer team will travel to play No. 2 Lee University this Friday, October 15th. The match is scheduled to begin at 5pm.
