BU Soccer Receives SSAC Awards
GULFPORT, Ms - The Southern States Athletic Conference held a banquet for the teams competing in the Women's Soccer Conference Championships, yesterday evening. During the dinner, the awards were announced for the 2011 season, and Brenau University earned the following:
2011 SSAC ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
This award is presented to all student-athletes who excel in the classroom. Nominees must have completed two terms of attendance and earned at least 24 semester hours of college level work, have attained a grade point average of 3.25 or higher based on all courses attempted at the current institution and from all previously attended institutions, and be participating in their sport during the semester in which the nomination is made.
Four Golden Tigers were named to the All-Academic Team, including:
Laura Hirst, a senior midfielder from Huddersfield, England
Lauren Cain, a sophomore midfielder from Kennesaw, Georgia
Hannah Norwood, a sophomore defender from Lawrenceville, Georgia
Rachel Zarach, a sophomore midfielder from Acworth, Georgia
MUSCO LIGHTING CHAMPION OF CHARACTER
This award is given to one student-athlete per team for each sponsored sport with the recipients selected by the coaches of the teams following each season of competition. Student-athletes are selected by the criteria outlined in the NAIA Champions of Character Program which is based on the characteristics of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership, and sportsmanship.
Hanna Martin, a senior defender from Toccoa, Georgia.
2011 SSAC ALL-FRESHMAN TEAM
Jenny Knibbs, a forward from Doncaster England.
In her first season, she played in 18 games. Knibbs leads the Golden Tigers with 12 goals, while also recording 4 assists. She has taken 60 shots, with 38 SOGs, so far this season.
2011 SSAC ALL-CONFERENCE 2nd TEAM
Hanna Martin, a senior defender from Toccoa, Georgia.
She competed in 18 games, while recording a goal and an assist. Over the course of the season, she made 22 shots and 9 SOGs.
Kirsty Smith, a sophomore midfielder from Doncaster, England.
In 18 games, she earned 4 goals and 2 assists, while taking 24 shots and 13 SOGs.
Jenny Knibbs, freshman forward, named a member of both teams.
2011 SSAC ALL-CONFERENCE 1st TEAM
Tori Brown, a freshman goalkeeper from Windermere, Florida.
In her debut season, she made 133 saves for the Golden Tigers, while only allowing 29 goals. With that, she produced a 0.821 percentage.
The Brenau University will be play in the semifinals of the SSAC Champsionships today, against No. 3 University of Mobile at 6:30pm (est).
