Brenau Takes No.6 Mobile Into Overtime
The Brenau University Golden Tigers soccer team fell to the #6 ranked University of Mobile Rams on Friday night with 2:05 left in the first overtime period.
Jenny Knibbs (Doncaster, England) scored the only goal for Brenau when she drove a far post shot past goalkeeper Rebecca Wynne of Mobile.
The game was close all night as the Tigers owned the first 20 minutes of the match and came within inches of scoring several goals. The consistent pressure eventually paid off when Knibbs found the back of the net. Unfortunately, it would be the only one for the home team as Mobile tied the match in the 70th minute off of a mis-cleared corner kick. Through the remaining 30 minutes of the game, both teams had opportunities to score the game winning goal but the defense held up on both sides of the ball.
Although the Lady Rams outshot the Tigers 16-12, it was an equal playing field and Brenau gave the NAIA #6 ranked visitors all they could handle. Goalkeeper, Tori Brown (Windermere, FL), was spectacular for Brenau, recording 10 saves on the night including two crucial 1 on 1 saves. Wynne recorded 5 saves for Mobile in goal.
