Tigers Set to Battle Warhawks in SSAC Tournament
The Golden Tigers Soccer team earned the fourth overall seed in the eight team 2012 SSAC Soccer Tournament which is set to begin on Saturday, November 3rd. The first round will be hosted by the top four seeds in the conference. Brenau will host the SSAC's number five seeded AUM Warhawks on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Allen Creek Soccer Complex.
Brenau and AUM met back on October 13th in Montgomery in the regular season when Brenau won by a slim 1- 0 margin. Since then, the Tigers have gone 2 - 1- 0 with their only loss coming at the hands of the NAIA's top-ranked Lee University Flames. The Warhawks currently have a 2 - 1- 1 record following their most recent loss to NAIA No.3 ranked Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.).
The Tigers are led offensively by the trio of Esther Anyanwu (Lagos, Nigeria), Jenny Knibbs (Doncaster, England) and Kayla Madsen (Gainesville, Ga.). The three of them have accounted for 44 of the 56 goals scored by the Tigers this season. Additionally, Brenau's defense has been solid - allowing only five goals in the team's last seven games and producing five shutouts in the process. The Tigers defense is led by sophomore goalkeeper Tori Brown (Windermere, Fla.) and Hannah Norwood (Grayson, Ga.).
The match-up with AUM is a critical one as the winner will be rewarded with a coveted spot in the Final Four Championships to be held in Montgomery, Ala. on November 8-10. This weekend will decide the semi-finalists. The Tigers will look to improve on last year's result following the semi-final loss to the University of Mobile. Brenau is currently 12-4-0 on the season.
