Soccer Drops Non-Conference Match
In a non-conference match, the #23 ranked Brenau Golden Tigers soccer team fell to the Thomas University (GA) Night Hawks by a score of 5-3.
After surrendering two early goals, the Golden Tigers cut the deficit in half when in the 25th minute, senior Jenny Knibbs (Doncaster, England) took a Vanessa Alexander (Toronto, Canada) pass and found the back of the net.
In the 32nd minute, the Night Hawks scored their third goal of the first half to take a 3-1 lead; however the Golden Tigers responded quickly as Knibbs found Esther Anyanwu (Lagos, Nigeria) for her team-leading sixth goal of the season to cut the Thomas University lead to 3-2.
The Golden Tigers, however, could not sustain momentum and allowed two more goals in the second half. Alexander scored a late goal to make the final score 5-3.
Brenau tallied 16 shots (10 on goal), while Thomas had 15 shots (11 on goal). Goalie Tori Brown (Windermere, FL) had six saves on the day.
"We had numerous opportunities to score and just couldn't finish our chances. We did not organize and adjust well to their attack and it was costly for us in the end," said head coach Mike Lochstampfor. "We will re-group and bounce back before heading into conference play this weekend against Spring Hill College and the University of Mobile."
The Golden Tigers (3-2-1) begin SSAC play this weekend when they travel to Mobile, AL to face Spring Hill College at 3 pm EST on Friday and NAIA #8 University of Mobile at 6:00 EST on Saturday.
