Golden Tigers Soccer Routs Barons
Four first half goals propelled the #18 Brenau Golden Tigers soccer team to a 6-0 victory over conference foe Brewton Parker College.
In the 12th minute, Kayla Madsen (Flowery Branch, GA) started the first half scoring barrage with an assist from Jenny Knibbs (Doncaster, England) and Vanessa Alexander (Toronto, Canada). Minutes later, Madsen returned the favor as she set up Alexander for the second goal of the half. Madsen continued her strong half of play as she scored again in the 20th minute off a Linda Chukwuji (Lagos, Nigeria) and Kirsty Smith (Doncaster, England) assist, while Esther Anyanwu (Lagos, Nigeria) found Alexander for her second goal of the half to give the Golden Tigers a commanding 4-0 lead.
In the 59th minute, Anyanwu scored her 19th goal of the year when she took a Hannah Norwood (Grayson, GA) pass to stretch the lead to 5-0. The Golden Tigers capped off the match when Monica Sanchez (Miami, FL) and Rachel Zarach (Acworth, GA) combined to set up Lauren Cain (Kennesaw, GA) to give the Golden Tigers their final goal.
Brenau dominated possession, outshooting the Barons 32-7, while keeper Tori Brown (Windermere, FL) secured the shutout for the Golden Tigers.
"It was great to get a conference win and the shutout on the road," said head coach Mike Lochstampfor. "We did some nice things and got some different players involved in the scoring".
The win improved Brenau's record to 10-3-1 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
The nationally-ranked Golden Tigers return to the pitch next Friday at 2 pm eastern when they travel to McKenzie, TN to take on SSAC member Bethel University.
