Soccer Ties In Season Opener
In the opening match of the 2014 season, the #17 Brenau Golden Tigers tied with Tennessee Wesleyan College 1-1 in two overtimes.
The Golden Tigers started off the new season quickly when in the 18th minute, senior Vanessa Alexander found newcomer Mary Achebo for a 1-0 lead.
In the 27th minute, senior keeper Tori Brown made an aggressive play on a breakaway Tennessee Wesleyan forward to break up a scoring chance, which resulted in an ejection.
Brenau's defense played well, holding the one goal advantage throughout the remainder of first half and deep into the second half. However, in the 88th minute, Kaitlyn Poulakis scored the equalizer for the Bulldogs to send the match into overtime.
In the first overtime, the Golden Tigers outshot the Bulldogs, but were unable to take the lead. Neither team seized advantage in the second overtime.
Brenau outshot the Bulldogs 15-12 for the match. Jasmina Smith, taking over for Brown in goal, notched seven saves in her first appearance for the Golden Tigers.

The Golden Tigers (0-0-1) take the pitch on Wednesday at 7 pm when they host the University of Northwest Ohio.
