Soccer Blanks Thomas 3-0
Three first half goals propelled the #17 Brenau University to their first win of the season over Thomas (Ga.) University on Sunday evening.
In the 18th minute, Kayla Madsen kicked off the scoring barrage as the forward took an assist from fellow senior Vanessa Alexander and found the back of the net for the first goal of the match.
The Golden Tigers added a second goal in the 24th minute when a pass from Elizabeth Campbell and Madsen helped Knibbs notch her first goal of the year to give the Golden Tigers a 2-0 lead.
Merely 20 seconds later, Knibbs rounded out her impressive evening with another assist, this time to Alexander for the third goal of the half.
The Brenau defense held fast, while senior keeper Tori Brown saved five shots to help secure the team's first shutout of the season.
"It was great to get the win and the shutout - especially against a good team like Thomas," said head coach Mike Lochstampfor. "We created some great chances that we put away early on and then did a nice job of defending the lead and managing the game well in the second half. I was very proud of the team and the overall effort. Our defense came up big throughout the entire game and we continue to improve and learn from each game."
The Golden Tigers outshot the Night Hawks 8-2 in the first half and 15-10 for the match.
Brenau (1-1-1) continues their long home stand when they face non-conference opponent Montreat (N.C) College on Saturday at 7 pm eastern.
