Soccer Drops Match To Thomas University
The Brenau soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, falling 5-2 to Thomas (Ga.) University in a non-conference match on Saturday in Gainesville.
The Golden Tigers found themselves in an early deficit after surrendering a goal to the Night Hawks' Linnea Roivas in the first minute of the match. Katy Hanscomb scored Thomas's second goal at the 29:46 mark to increase the lead to 2-0.
After the intermission, Kayla Folse added a third goal for the Night Hawks for a 3-0 lead.
In the 53rd minute, the Brenau offense finally got on track as Jensen Meaux notched her third goal of the season to make the score 3-1. However, Thomas scored two consecutive goals to take a commanding 5-1 lead.
Iman Williams scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from Kyree Taylor in the 86th minute, but the Golden Tigers were unable to sustain momentum.
Brenau keeper Anela Melton had one save against five goals, while Night Hawk keeper Kara Houston notched 6 saves. Brenau outshot the Night Hawks 19-16.
Brenau (3-1 overall, 0-0 SSAC) hosts 22nd ranked Reinhardt (Ga.) University in a non-conference match on Wednesday in Gainesville.
