Strong Second Half Propels Soccer Past Faulkner
The Brenau soccer team scored four second half goals en route to a 4-1 win over visiting Faulkner (Ala.) University in Southern States Athletic Conference play on Saturday in Gainesville.
Sophomore Casey Qua scored twice, while fellow sophomore Taylor Bennett and senior Megan Chandler each collected two assists to lead the Golden Tigers to their sixth win.
Unable to find the scoring touch in the first half, the Brenau offense found its rhythm after intermission Bennett and Qua combined for the first goal to make the score 1-0. In the 75th minute, Chandler found fellow senior Jasmine Brewster who increased the lead to 2-0. Just over three minutes later, Bennett notched her second assist of the match, passing to freshman Kyree Taylor for the third goal of the period.
In the 86th minute, Qua scored again off Chandler's second assist to close out the match and give the Golden Tigers their sixth win of the season.
Brenau held a 25-8 shot advantage over the Eagles, while keeper Ashley Spring stopped three shots to earn the victory.
The victory allowed Brenau (6-6 overall, 2-2 SSAC) to even both their overall and conference win totals with four regular season games remaining. The squad next plays host to Oglethorpe (Ga.) University on Wednesday in a non-conference matchup in Atlanta.
