Soccer Falls in Heartbreaker to Dalton State
A lone goal in double overtime allowed visiting Dalton State (Ga.) College to escape with a 1-0 win over the Brenau soccer team on Friday in Gainesville.
After going scoreless throughout three periods, the Roadrunners slipped in a shot in the 104th minute, beating keeper Anela Melton and the Brenau defense to escape with the win.
The match was a frustrating one to a Golden Tigers offense that dominated possession throughout the match. Brenau outshot the Roadrunners 17-10 and the defense limited the visitors to only a few real scoring chances. However, the Brenau attack missed several opportunities on goal in each of the periods, including a second half, point-blank shot by Casey Qua that was thwarted by Dalton State goalie Amara Holmes.
Melton and Ashley Spring combined for five saves, while Amara notched 12 saves for the visitors.
Brenau (7-7 overall, 3-3 SSAC) wraps up the regular season with a two-game SSAC swing against #3 ranked Martin Methodist (Tenn.) and Bethel (Tenn.) University next weekend.
