Second Half Goal Propels Soccer Past Union 1-0
Gainesville, Georgia - After a scoreless first half, Brenau's Casey Qua scored off an assist from Christina Gormley in the second half to defeat Union (Ky.) College 1-0 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on homecoming weekend at Allen Creek Soccer Complex.
In the first half, the Golden Tigers outshot the visiting Bulldogs 8-4, but were unable to capitalize on any scoring opportunities. In the 31st minute, senior Jensen Meaux had a shot on goal, but it was saved by Union keeper Hallie Hinthorne to keep the score 0-0 going into intermission.
In the 48th minute, the Golden Tiger offense finally capitalized as Gormley found Qua for her fourth goal of the season. The lone goal proved to be the advantage as the defense held fast to help Brenau win its fourth game of the year.
The win improved Brenau's record to 4-4-1 overall (3-2 AAC) and places the Golden Tigers in fourth place in the AAC standings. The loss dropped Union to 2-6 overall (1-3 AAC) and tenth place in the conference rankings.
Brenau next travels to Point (Ga.) University (4-3-1 overall, 2-0-1 AAC) on Thursday for an 8 pm AAC matchup. The match is the rescheduled contest from the rain out from September 26th.
