Bob Jones Edges Past Soccer in Non-Conference Play
Gainesville, Ga. - A second half penalty kick allowed Bob Jones (S.C.) University to slip past the Brenau soccer team 1-0 in a non-conference matchup.
In a game filled with lightning delays, both teams battled to a scoreless tie as neither team seized control of the match in the first half.
The standoff continued throughout the second half until the 66th minute when the Bruins' Jenna Bishop was fouled in the box, which awarded her squad a penalty kick. Bruin midfielder Kayle Stevenson's shot beat Golden Tiger keeper Daphne Ramirez to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
The Golden Tigers' efforts to find the equalizer were rebuffed in the final twenty five minutes which allowed the Bruins to escape with the 1-0 victory.
Bob Jones (2-3 overall) held a slight 8-6 shot attempt advantage over Brenau in the match.
Brenau (0-3 overall) opens the Appalachian Athletic Conference slate on Saturday versus Columbia (S.C.) College (2-1 overall) at 6:00 pm at Allen Creek Soccer Complex.
