Soccer Rolls Past Point 3-1 in AAC Play
West Point, Georgia- The Brenau offense scored three goals and the defense held tight throughout the match to help the Brenau soccer team defeat Point (Ga.) University 3-1 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Thursday.
In the first five minutes of play, the Golden Tigers attack dominated as the squad peppered the Skyhawk defense with four shots on goal. In the 14th minute, the offense broke through as sophomore Itzel Rivera found Cindy Bonilla for her third goal of the season.
Mackenzie Callas added to the scoring in the 35th minute as the Dawsonville, Ga. junior scored her second goal of the year to increase the lead to 2-0.
After intermission, Jade Echols scored on a penalty kick in the 81st minute to provide an insurance goal for a 3-0 lead.
The Skyhawks Sabria Marquez scored in the final two minutes to avoid the shutout.
Brenau keeper Daphne Ramirez and Point keeper Martha Mormeneo each saved four shots on goal.
Brenau (2-4 overall, 2-1 AAC) takes on Bluefield (Va.) College (0-6-1 overall, 0-4) on Saturday at 5:30 pm at Allen Creek Soccer Complex.
