Echols' Hat Trick Propels Golden Tigers Past Bluefield
Gainesville, Georgia- Jade Echols notched a hat trick and three other Golden Tigers scored goals in a 6-0 rout of Bluefield (Va.) College in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Saturday.
Echols and fellow junior Mackenzie Callas each posted career days to help the Golden Tigers to their third win of the season.
Callas started the scoring outburst with a goal in the second minute, and then assisted on a goal by sophomore Itzel Rivera in the seventh minute for a 2-0 lead.
Rivera then earned her third assist of the season as freshman Cindy Bonilla scored to increase the lead to 3-0.
Echols scored the first of her three goals in the 30th minute and then scored off assists from Callas inside the 46th and 53rd minute to complete the shutout. Echols, who has four goals in her last two games, posted the first Golden Tigers' hat trick since former Brenau standout Jenny Knibbs scored three times against Georgia Gwinnett College in 2014.
For Callas, this was her second goal in two games and her first three assist game as a Golden Tiger.
Brenau dominated Bluefield with a 38-3 shot advantage in the match. The Rams' keeper Anna Flinchum saved 17 shots, while Brenau's Daphne Ramirez and Fallan Lacey combined for one save and a shutout.
Brenau (3-4 overall, 3-1 AAC) next travels to Bryan (Tenn.) College (5-5 overall, 4-1 AAC) on Wednesday for a 5 pm conference matchup.
