Soccer Blanks St. Andrews 3-0 in AAC Play
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau soccer team overwhelmed St. Andrews (N.C.) University 3-0 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday.
The Golden Tigers pounded 28 shots, including 18 shots in the second half to wear down the Knights en route to an important late season conference win.
The Brenau offense started quickly when at the 5:41 mark as Mackenzie Callas assisted on a Cindy Bonilla goal to give her team an early 1-0 lead. For Bonilla, the goal marked her sixth goal of her freshman season and her third in the last two matches.
After the intermission, Jade Echols added to the lead as junior forward beat the Knights' keeper Kaitlin Locklear for a 2-0 lead.
In the 89th minute, the squad added an insurance goal as Callas notched her second assist of the match to Echols to secure the victory. The goal marked Echols' team-high seventh goal of the season and her second match posting more than one goal. The Wellington, Fla. native previously scored three goals against Bluefield (Va.) College earlier in the season.
Brenau keeper Daphne Ramirez posted her second clean sheet in goal with two saves.
Brenau (5-9 overall, 5-6 AAC) next takes on Montreat (N.C.) College (8-7 overall, 5-7 AAC) on Senior Day on Saturday at Allen Creek Soccer Complex. The team will honor seniors Jacquelyn Christoph, Elli Johnson, Tatiana Rojas and Cheyenne Slate after the match.
