Soccer Defeats Montreat 1-0; Advances in AAC Tournament
Gainesville, Georgia- Senior Cheyenne Slate scored the lone goal to propel the Brenau soccer team past Montreat (N.C.) College 1-0 in the opening round of the 2019 Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday.
The Golden Tigers controlled the match as the offense pounded the Cavalier's keeper Keiragan Wall with a 21-2 shot advantage. Wall, who posted eight saves, held fast until Slate's game winner at the 45:21 mark.
The Brenau defense also played strong by allowing only two shots on goal as keeper Daphne Ramirez turned back the Cavalier's lone chance to keep a clean sheet.
This was the second matchup between these two squads in a week as the Golden Tigers defeated the Cavaliers 3-2 last Saturday.
The eighth seeded Golden Tigers will advance to the tournament's quarterfinals to face top-seeded Truett McConnell (Ga.) College (15-2 overall) on Tuesday at 2pm in Cleveland, Georgia.
