Soccer Defeats Tennessee Wesleyan in AAC Home Opener
Gainesville, Georgia- In the 2020 season home opener, the Brenau soccer team defeated Tennessee Wesleyan University 2-1 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Wednesday.
Senior Jade Echols posted a goal and assist, while junior Abbie George added a goal to upend the visiting Bulldogs and give Brenau its first conference win of the season.
At the 7:03 mark, Echols helped her team start fast by assisting on George's goal to give the Golden Tigers an early 1-0 advantage.
Tennessee Wesleyan (0-1 overall, 0-1 AAC) answered at the 15:21 mark as Katie Phillips scored to even the match 1-1.
Both teams battled to a stalemate throughout the first half and well into second half until Echols beat Bulldog keeper Austen Meyers for the game winner.
Meyers saved 15 shots in the loss, while Golden Tigers keeper Daphne Ramirez collected 10 saves to help secure the victory.
Brenau (1-0-1 overall, 1-0-1 AAC) next hosts Columbia International University (2-0 overall, 2-0 AAC) on Saturday at 6:00 pm in Gainesville.
