Milligan Slips by Soccer 1-0 in Conference Play
Elizabethton, Tennessee- The Brenau soccer team struggled offensively in a 1-0 loss to Milligan (Tenn.) University in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday.
In the first half, the host Buffaloes controlled the pace with ten shots, however, Golden Tigers keeper Daphne Ramirez held off the early attack with four saves. Milligan broke through at the 30 minute mark by beating Ramirez to make the score 1-0.
The Golden Tigers had several chances to tie in the second period as senior Itzel Ramirez fired a shot in the 57th minute, but was rebuffed by Milligan keeper Lauren Davies. In the 69th minute, junior forward Camila Penagos also had an opportunity, but was again stifled by Davies.
In the 89th minute, Penagos had one final opportunity to even the match, however, the shot missed the mark and the Buffaloes escaped with the victory.
Ramirez and sophomore Jordan Smith combined for nine saves for the Golden Tigers, while Davies saved three shots for the Buffaloes.
Milligan held a 24-7 shot advantage in the match.
Brenau (1-4 overall, 1-4 AAC) next travels to Union (Ky.) College (0-6 overall, 0-3 AAC) on Saturday at noon in Barbourville, Kentucky.
