Soccer Ties Union 1-1 in 2OTs
Barbourville, Kentucky- The Brenau soccer team struck early, but a late goal by Union (Ky.) College resulted in a 1-1 tie in two overtimes in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday.
The Golden Tigers seized early control of the match when in the 18th minute junior forward Cindy Bonilla found fellow junior Camila Penagos for the opening goal of the match and an early 1-0 lead. The goal was the first of the season for Penagos and the assist marked the first for Bonilla.
The Brenau defense held fast throughout the remainder of the first half and late into the second half until the final 34 seconds as the Bulldogs' Rafaela Oliveria scored the equalizer to send the game to overtime.
After two overtimes, neither team could seize an advantage as the game ended in a draw.
Brenau held a 15-10 shot advantage in the match.
The Golden Tigers' keeper Daphne Ramirez saved six shots on goal, while the Bulldogs' Maria DeFatima saved seven shots.
Brenau (1-4-1 overall, 1-4-1 AAC) next travels to Point (Ga.) University (2-5-1 overall, 2-2-1 AAC) on Wednesday at 7 pm in West Point, Ga.
