CIU Edges Past Golden Tigers Soccer 2-0
Columbia, South Carolina- Two second half goals helped Columbia International (SC) University defeat the Brenau soccer team 2-0 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Saturday.
After neither team scored in the first half, the host Rams broke the tie in the 57th minute as Mazzie Leos beat Golden Tiger keeper Daphne Ramirez for a 1-0 lead. Just under five minutes later, Leos added an insurance goal to increase the lead to 2-0 and help the Rams escape with the win.
The Golden Tigers posted a six to five shots on goal advantage, but could not find the back of the net. Ramirez saved one shot for Brenau, while CIU keeper Emily Nelson saved three shots in the win.
Brenau (4-5-1 overall, 4-5-1 AAC) continues its road slate when the team plays Tennessee Wesleyan University (7-4-1 overall, 4-3-1 AAC) on Wednesday at 2:30 pm in Athens, TN.
