Offense Propels Golden Tigers Soccer Past CIU 3-1
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau soccer team used a strong offensive showing to defeat Columbia International (S.C.) University 3-1 on Senior Day in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) soccer match on Saturday.
The Golden Tigers scored at the 5:06 mark as sophomore midfielder Daroly Ramos took a pass from freshman Hannah Listwin and beat Rams' keeper Julianna Bost for an early 1-0 lead.
The advantage was short lived as the equalizer came just over two minutes later to even the match at 1-1.
The Brenau offense again came alive in the 45th minute as Cindy Bonilla found Camila Penagos for the go-ahead score. In the 72nd minute, Bonilla notched her second assist of the half when she found Itzel Rivera for the insurance goal to help secure the squad's ninth win of the season.
The Golden Tigers outshot the visiting Rams 20-10 and Brenau keeper Jordan Smith saved six shots in the victory.
Brenau (9-2-2 overall, 7-1-2 AAC) next hosts Tennessee Wesleyan University (8-4 overall, 7-2 AAC) in a critical AAC matchup on Wednesday at 5 pm eastern.
