Late Goal Propels Pikeville Past Golden Tigers 3-2
Pikeville, Kentucky- A late goal propelled the University of Pikeville soccer team past Brenau 3-2 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) matchup on Wednesday.
In the first half, Pikeville struck first as Kylie Gollihue scored in the 22nd minute to give the home team an early 1-0 lead. Pikeville added to the lead in the 43rd minute as Ruby D’Arcy beat Brenau keeper Jordan Smith on an unassisted goal for a 2-0 advantage.
Brenau stormed back in the second half behind the stellar play of Sarah Clark as the freshman scored two goals in the span of four minutes to even the match at 2-2.
Both teams battled throughout the final 10 minutes until Pikeville’s Ellie Webb scored in the 89th minute to give the Bears the victory.
Keeper Jordan Smith saved five shots on goal and the Golden Tigers held a 19-10 shots on goal advantage.
Clark currently sits second in goals scored (6) and in total points (13) in the AAC.
Brenau (3-1 overall, 1-1 AAC) continues Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Wednesday when the squad plays host to St. Andrews (N.C.) (0-3 overall 0-2 AAC) for a 5 pm matchup at Allen Creek Soccer Complex.
