Brenau Swimmers Open Season at Asbury

Asbury, KY- The Brenau Swim Team opened their season last weekend at a Double Dual Meet in which they lost to the host school 70-13 and defeated Campbellsville, KY 47-44. In the Campbellsville dual Freshman Ana Galesic (Croatia) had an outstanding day, winning three individual events and qualifying for NAIA Nationals in two of them.
She swam a personal best 26.85 in the 50 Free, which qualifies her for nationals; won the 100 Free in 59.50, also qualifying for nationals; and another personal best 1:08.04 in the 100 Back. The 200 Medley Relay team of Galesic, Julia Ferreira, Lucianne Kimura, Lauren Harville recorded a 2:01.87, good enough for 1st place and an A cut for NAIA Nationals. In the
1000 Free Sarah Fell clocked a 12.48.25 (2nd place), and qualified for nationals. In the 200 IM Julia Ferreira swam a solid 2:29.07 (1st Place).
Team Captain Lucianne Kimura swam a PB 1:03.85 (1st Place) in the 100 Fly, qualifying for nationals and Mafubo Ujeneza had a PB with 1:46.43 (3rd place)
Kimura rested for 7 minutes and captured 1st place again with another PB 59.85 in the 100 Free. In the 500 Free Sarah Fell swam 6.19.50, good enough for 2nd place, and Ferreira won the 100 BR in 1:15.28, qualifying her for NAIA Nationals. " Overall we had 5 NAIA National Qualifying times, 7 first places/2 second places/1 third place out of 11 events, which is better than I expected for this early in the season. I am very proud of the way our ladies competed," said Coach Gabby Matthews.
