Tigers Place Second at Season Opener
The Golden Tigers swim team competed in a quad meet against Mars Hill College, King College, and LaGrange College, this Saturday. From the 4 teams, Brenau placed 2nd overall.
Brenau overwhelmed LaGrange, 146-36, while also defeating King, 120-64. The conference match up was intense, with Mars Hill coming out on top, 127-104. Out of 13 events, the Brenau University Swim Team placed 1st in 9 of them.
The swim team opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay, with Michelle Billeaud (Lafayette, LA), Hannah Boudreaux (Lafayette, LA), Meredith Barrington (Macon, GA), and Lisa Portwood (Marietta, GA) competing. Not only did they make an immediate presence at the meet, but they also qualified for the NAIA National Championships.
Some of the top finishes of the day were: Hannah Boudreaux 200 free (2:01.90), 100 free (57.4); Michelle Billeaud 50 free (25.3), 100 back (1:02.02); Meredith Barrington 100 fly (1:02.62), 50 fly (28.8).
"Today, our team showed that they are competitors, going toe to toe with some of our conference rivals," commented Coach Blaire Bachman. "This was an early season meet and I am very impressed with our progress thus far. In the following weeks, our team will dig deep in practice and we look forward to fast swimming in the meets to come this season."
The Brenau swim team will dive back in on October 8th, at the GSCU Inter-Squad Meet.
