Brenau Swimmers 'Golden' at Limestone/Converse Dual Meet

The long bus trip over to South Carolina did not hamper the efforts of the Golden Tigers as they came prepared to compete against three established swim programs on Thursday evening. Swimming in their final regular season meet before heading to ASC Conference Championships and NAIA Nationals, Brenau swimmers put on a show for spectators on Thursday evening delivering a total of four 1st place finishes, four personal best times, and a new team record.
Final scores for the four team meet had Brenau defeating King College (87-24), while losing to hosts Converse College (79-43) and Limestone College (88-34). However; individually and in specific events, Brenau was not be beaten. In the 200 Medley Relay of Michelle Billeaud, Julia Ferreira, Hannah Boudreaux & Meredith Barrington opened the meet with a solid second place finish (1:55.77) out-touched by Limestone by a .05 margin.
The Golden Tigers challenged their opponents to close races throughout the night, Hannah Boudreaux and Michelle Billeaud clocked in with two first place races each. Boudreaux claimed the 200 Freestyle (1:57.52) and 100 Breaststroke (1:10.06); both personal best times. Freshman, Billeaud scored big in the 100 Butterfly (59.44) and 100 IM (1:01.95), clearing the heat by over 5 seconds. Billeaud also set a school record in the Individual Medley, beating the previous record she set in the fall. Sophomore, Lisa Portwood, placed 3rd in the 500 Freestyle (5:32.36).
Other finishes from the Golden Tigers included; Julia Ferreira 100 Breaststroke (1:16), Monica Souther 100 Freestyle (1:01), Sarah Yawn 1000 Freestyle (12:27), Meredith Barrington 50 Butterfly (29.8) and Laura Hirst 50 Breaststroke (41.9).
An elated Coach Bachman following the meet said, "we raced smart this week and turned out some great times. I'm excited to see our progress as the team heads into taper for our championship season, we look strong and I am confident each swimmer will achieve their personal goals for the season."
Up next for Brenau is the Appalachian Swim Conference Championship Meet on February 17-19. The meet will be hosted by Union College, Ky.
