Brenau Swimming Dominates Quad Meet
In a quad meet hosted by LaGrange College, Brenau University Swimming remained continued their winning ways, outscoring NCAA Division III teams Birmingham Southern College (122-62) and LaGrange College (134-22), and South Georgia College (127-52). The Golden Tigers carried their event winning tradition by touching the wall first in nine of ten events.
Leading off the evening was a win in the the 200 Medley Relay (1:53.07), quickly followed by a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 Free by Courtney Hayward (1:58.80), Shelby Rumker (2:00.25) and Bella Castille (2:06.28).
Team captain Michelle Billeaud (Lafayette, La,) captured first place in two events during the evening, including the 50 Free (25.24) and 100 Fly (1:00.44). Hayward and Mary Katherine Jabbia (Slidell, La.) continued the 1-2 showing in the 200 IM, finishing in 2:15.46 and 2:17.06 respectively.
Rumker had a nail-biting finish in the 100 Free, hitting the wall first with a time of 55.66. Teammate Alexandria Watkins (Watkinsville, Ga.) finished in fifth place with a time of 1:00.76. Freshman Talia Sola (Madrid, Spain) finished the 100 Back in first place in 59.06.
In the 500 Freestyle, Hayward, Kathleen Rossi (Clearwater, FL) and Castille finished in 5:17.59, 5:30.66 and 5:33.23 respectively.
In the last individual event of the evening, Jabbia gained another victory in the 100 Breaststroke (1:11.55), quickly followed by Sophie Nasstrom (1:13.30).
"We came home with a win for Brenau University and are thrilled to have another meet under our belts. Birmingham and South Georgia gave us great races that pushed us to get out of our comfort zone and I'm proud of the efforts exhibited by our Golden Tigers, especially under the rigors of current training," said head coach Blaire Bachman. "Everyone does there part in getting our team to this level, and I'm excited to see what the rest of the season has in store."
The Golden Tigers next race at the Brenau Invitational at Francis Meadows Aquatic Center on November 22nd and 23rd.
