Brenau Swimming kicked off their weekend at the SCAD-Savannah (Ga.) Invitational with a new school record, six NAIA "A" Cuts and three personal best swims.
Freshman Courtney Hayward (Townsville, AUS) captured second place and broke a 29 year old school record in the 1650 Free with a time of 17:06.55. Bella Castille (Lafayette, La.) and Kathleen Rossi (Clearwater, Fla.) added season best swims with 18:38.81 and 18:53.98 respectively.
In the 800 Free Relay, the Golden Tigers placed fifth and were victorious over host SCAD, hitting the wall at 7:51.76 and recording personal best times on lead off legs from Shelby Rumker (Douglas, Ga.) in 1:56.84 and Talia Sola (Madrid, Spain) in 1:59.35.
Coach Blaire Bachman praised her team after day one, saying, "We are off to a great start, seeing such quick swims recorded the first session is exciting and it's a full team effort! Having only rested a few days for this invitational, it is encouraging to see that we have speed and look forward to more fast swims over the weekend."
Day two of the three day event picks up today as the Golden Tigers look for more team success!
