Swimming Finishes Fourth at SCAD Invitational
On the final day of the SCAD Invitational, the Brenau swim team scored several points to push them into a fourth place finish overall.
The 200 Medley Relay opened the finals session as the Golden Tigers raced to a season best 1:49.50 to capture fifth place finish. Freshman Talia Sola (Madrid, Spain) recorded a team record in the 200 Back during prelims in 2:07.56, and Shelby Rumker (Douglas, Ga,) followed with a eleventh place in the finals touching in 2:10.73.
In the 500 Free, Courtney Hayward (Townsville, AUS) reset a thirty six year-old record, placing second in 5:00.50, while Bella Castille (Lafayette, La.) achieved an NAIA "B" cut going 5:23.87. Junior Michelle Billeaud (Lafayette, La.) achieved a personal best time and set a new school record in the 100 Fly in 57.92. Breaststrokers Mary Katherine Jabbia (Slidell, La.) and Sophie Nasstrom made the finals of the 200, placing sixth and tenth with a 2:28.62 and 2:35.35. Sola and Nasstrom also went 55.43 and 56.01 in the 100 Free, to qualify for the NAIA nationals.
In the final individual event of the night, Hayward led the way in the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.09, closely followed by Jabbia who finished in 2:14.50. Concluding a fast meet, Brenau achieved a season-best swim in the 400 Freestyle relay, edging out host SCAD with a time of 3:38.68.
The Golden Tigers take a break for the holidays and return to the pool on January 10th when they travel to South Georgia College.
