Swimming Dominates Tri-Meet
Brenau University Swimming competed in a tri-meet on Friday with South Georgia College and Thomas University, besting both teams and finishing first place in all events.
The Golden Tigers started off the meet quickly as the 200 Medley Relay set a blistering time of 1:53.89, followed by a 1-2 finish in the 200 Free by Courtney Hayward (2:00.06) and Shelby Rumker (2:01.73). Sophomores M.K. Jabbia (Slidell, La.) and Kathleen Rossi (Clearwarter, Fla.) both competed in the 200 IM, hitting the wall with in 2:19.12 and 2:31.17 respectively.
In the 50 Free, sprinters dominated the event as Michelle Billeaud (Lafayette, La.) outpaced the competition in a time of 25.40, followed by Talia Sola (26.33) and Sophie Nasstrom (26.89). Rumker found a personal best time in the 100 Fly with a 1:02.58 with Billeaud winning the event in 1:01.59.
Sola took first place honors in the 100 free (58.20) and the 100 back (59.65), while distance swimmers Hayward (5:18.44) and Rossi (5:38.35) wrapped up the 500 free with a 1-2 finish.
The Breaststrokers finished the individual events with a solid 1-2-3 mark with Hayward hitting a personal best of 1:13.63, Jabbia close behind with a 1:14.41 and Nasstrom rounding out the top with a 1:15.88.
Ending the night was the 200 Freestyle relay where both A and B relays crushed the competition with fast times of 1:45.06 and 1:47.81 respectively.
"This time of the year, I'm looking to see how our technique and strokes are working post winter training, rather than just at the times on the board" said head coach Blaire Bachman. "We are pushing through a lot of soreness and adjusting to the new semester, so I'm confident our times will come around with normal training. Our attitude and team spirit at this meet was outstanding and I'm looking forward to the upcoming championship meet where I really expect these women to shine!"
The Golden Tigers hit the pool again on January 18th as they play host to Converse (S.C) College.
