Swimming Finishes Second at BU Invitational
GAINESVILLE, Georgia- Brenau University Swimming outpaced eight other teams to finish second at the 4th Annual Brenau Invitational this past weekend.
The Golden Tigers scored 631.50 points to finish behind defending champion SCAD-Savannah, who captured 1,000.50 points.
"Our invitational began as an opportunity for NAIA schools to race outside of conference and nationals," said head coach Blaire Bachman. "Since its beginning, we've added several NCAA teams and the meet has become a staple for many program's fall season."
Top finishes over the weekend include:
200 Freestyle Relay- Third Place- Mary Katherine Jabbia, Courtney Hayward, Ella Kleinschmidt and Michelle Billeaud (1:41.96);
400 Medley Relay- First Place- Talia Sola, Jabbia, and Heyward (4:04.95);
200 Medley Relay- First Place- Solia, Billeaud, Jabbia, Kleinschmidt (1:53.21);
100 Backstroke – First Place- Talia Sola (59.12);
500 Freestyle – Second Place-Courtney Hayward (5:10.40);
1650 Freestyle- Second Place - Ella Kleinschmidt (18:09.73);
100 Breaststroke- Third Place – Mary Katherine Jabbia (1:10.40);
100 Freestyle –Fourth Place- Michelle Billeaud (55.26);
Among qualifiers for the NAIA Nationals were Sophie Nasstrom (100 BR - B Cut), Kathleen Rossi (1650 FR - B Cut) and Sarah Frey (200 IM - B Cut).
Bachman noted that the Invitational provides great experience for her team, saying, "The team showed a lot of grit and we had some fantastic swims & races to learn from moving forward. The meet was important for us to see where we stood going into our rest meet for the fall and all signs show our ladies are ready to race!"
The Golden Tigers next take to the water at the SCAD Invitational in Savannah, Ga. on December 4th.
