Swimming Leads After Day Two of ASC Championships
The Brenau continued their dominance on the second day of the ASC Championships as the Golden Tigers ended Friday leading the field with 481 points, followed by Wheeling Jesuit University with 417.5 points.
Brenau opened the evening with a meet and team record in the 200 Medley Relay (1:45.58) while Courtney Hayward (SO/Townsville, AUS) picked up her second title in the 400 IM hitting the wall with a new meet record of 4:29.02. In the 100 butterfly, Alisha Hodgetts (FR/Perth, AUS) and Michelle Billeaud (SR/Lafayette, La.) finished first and second with times of 57.81 and 57.91 respectively.
Freshman Ella Kleinschmidt (FR/Hervey Bay, Queensland AUS) found the podium in the 200 freestyle touching second overall (1:55.29), while teammate Shelby Rumker (SR/Douglas, Ga.) secured fourth place in 1:55.86.
Mary Katherine Jabbia (JR/Slidell, La.) continued her winning ways as the junior placing first in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.67) while also setting a new meet record. Billeaud and Sophie Nasstrom (SO/Stockholm, Sweden) finished 3rd and 7th with times of 1:07.00 and 1:09.00 respectively.
Talia Sola secured championship status in the 100 backstroke in 56.39, while Rumker placed third with 59.02. Freshmen Amanda Smith (FR/Cumming, Ga.) and Madison Kosater (FR/Macon, Ga.) rounded out the Golden Tigers' dominance of the backstroke with 9th and 11th place finishes.
The evening concluded with Brenau winning the 800 Free Relay in a meet record time of 7:50.04.
"Our team performed incredibly well today, and I'm extremely proud of everyone for solid swims across the board," said head coach Blaire Bachman. "We've set ourselves up for a solid last day of competition and hope to bring back the conference title for Brenau University."
