Swimming Concludes Regular Season With Win

The #2 Brenau swim team defeated Emmanuel (Ga.) College (117-81) and Columbia (SC) College (101-88) in a double dual meet in Franklin Springs, Ga. on Saturday.

"It was an exciting meet!" said head coach Nathan Rhoads. "The score kept going back and forth against both teams for most of the afternoon, but it was Ella's (Kleinschmidt) 500 freestyle and our 200 freestyle relay that got us over the hump."

Kleinschmidt continued her strong season for the Golden Tigers this season, winning both the 200 freestyle (1:59.18) and the 500 freestyle (5:22.39). She also notched a first place finish as part of Brenau's 200 freestyle relay.

The Golden Tigers also won both the 200 medley and 200 freestyle. The 200 medley of Lindsay Dowling (28.02), MK Jabbia (32.19), Alisha Hodgetts (25.69), and Courtney Hayward (25.69) secured the victory, while the 200 Freestyle relay of Kleinschmidt (26.22), Hayward (25.85), Margaret Norton (26.94) and Hodgetts (24.81) also swam past the competition.

Hayward and Hodgetts also had excellent individual performances for the Golden Tigers. Hayward won the mile in 17:49.88, while Hodgetts captured the 100 freestyle in 55.53.

Lindsay Dowling also had a nice afternoon as the freshman won the 200 backstroke in 2:09.53 and placed 3rd in the 200 freestyle (2:00.76, a season best).

The meet concluded the regular season as the swim team now looks to defend their Appalachian Swim Conference title at the ASC Championships on Feb. 11-13 in Christianburg, Virginia.
