Swimming Competes on Day One of NAIA Championships
On day one of the 2017 NAIA Swimming and Diving Championships, the Brenau swim team earned four top five finishes on Wednesday and Thursday in Columbus, Georgia.
In the first swimming final of the finals on Wednesday, the 800 freestyle relay team of Yanne Toussaint, Ella Kleinschmidt , Chloe Ireland and Courtney Hayward also placed fourth with a time of 7:46.34.
On Thursday, the 200 freestyle relay team of Toussaint, Kleinschmidt, Anna Rose and Alisha Hodgetts earned a fourth place finish with a time of 1:38.13,
In the final relay of day one, the 400 medley relay team continued the strong relay performances with a third place finish-the Golden Tigers' highest finish of the day- as Lindsay Dowling joined Toussaint, Hodgetts and Hayward to post a time of 3:54.12.
Individually, Courtney Hayward earned the Golden Tigers their fourth top four finish of the day in the 500 freestyle in 5:03.01, while teammate Ella Kleinschmidt notched a twelfth place finish in 5:13.06.
Toussaint also placed well on day one in her first NAIA championships as the freshman captured a 10th place finish in the 200 IM in 2:10.88.
Junior Alisha Hodgetts wrapped up the day one individual races with an eleventh place finish in the 50 freestyle in 24:63.
The NAIA Championships will continue Friday, March 3 as preliminary races will begin at 9 a.m., while finals will start at 5 p.m. Complete coverage of the championships can be found here.
